·      Get back some work you’ve completed.

Review Writing Lesson:  Think about a word’s CONNOTATION, as well as its DENOTATION.
1.      Positive versus Negative            = Oily and buttery
2.     Feminine versus Masculine        =  “attractive”
3.     Baggage                                       = “sexy” versus “beautiful”
4.     Baggage                                       = “overweight”
Denotation Definition= the literal or primary meaning of a word
Connotation Definition= an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning; the vibe or a word--overtone, undertone, undercurrent, implication, hidden meaning, nuance, hint, echo, association, suggestion, insinuation

Writing Lesson:  Connotation
·      Many words have baggage:  nuances, hints, undercurrents, implications, overtones….

Practice:  Complete Vocab Variety Sheet #2 (pages 14 and 15 )
·      Turn this page in by the monkey cup when you finish.  Make sure your name is on it!
·      Play free rice until I stop you, and then we’ll get ready for our mid-term reflection.

Mid-Term Turn-In
When you finish your mid-term reflection, go back to Maribel’s/Kristen’s table, and staple your packet like this:
·      Mid-Term Reflection (green)                       (on top)
·      Piece you want parent to read                    (middle)—or if it’s on computer, write that at the top of your mid-term reflection
·      Grade printout                                                          (on bottom)
2)  Now hand Maribel/Kristen your packet.
3)  Return your manila folder to the table.

4)  Play free rice until I stop you.


Diction Practice—Click on the link on my blog!  Make sure you’re in the class group!
1.      Play free rice at your BEST LEVEL (not starting over at Level 1) when you finish.
2.     15,000 grains are due by Friday, April 25th, 2014.

·      Go to “Change Level”, and change it to two levels below your best.
·      Do NOT start over from “1” every time.  You will lose hours of your life!
